Jane Duffield
• JANE Duffield was a significant figure in Camden as a long-term resident, a teacher for many years, including a 19-year stint as deputy head at Richard Cobden School (many former pupils who remember her) and, more recently, as a leading light in the Camden Tour Guides Association.
Jane was the course director for the 2019-20 guiding course. I was one of the students on that course with Jane as one of our tutors and due to her inspirational teaching, I qualified as a tour guide.
Jane encouraged and helped us to complete the course during lockdown with Zoom lectures and online examinations.
Along with other graduates of the class of 2019-20, and indeed all Camden tour guides, I am deeply saddened by Jane’s death.
Her knowledge of her subject, her love of Camden, her determination, courage and sheer joie de vivre made her both an inspirational teacher and wonderful company.
Jane is survived by her daughter Amy and three grandchildren Evie, Anna, and Edward.
The class of 2019-20 will organise a walk in her memory once it is safe to do so and we have all been donating to a fund which has been set up in Jane’s memory to provide a bursary to provide assisted places for students who would otherwise be unable to afford tour guide training.
It’s a perfect way to remember Jane because she was always totally committed to enhancing educational opportunity for all.
Any former students who remember Jane might wish to contribute to the appeal at https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/janeduffield
