Reinstate our freedom pass
Thursday, 21st January 2021

The late Illtyd Harrington introduced the Freedom Pass to London in the 1980s
• I SUPPORT Elaine Chambers’s comments on the freedom pass, (Fix this madness over the freedom pass, January 14).
Pre the Transport for London morning pensioner travel time ruling last summer, long experience of tube travel, Archway to central London, shows you need to be at Archway by 7am to 7.15am.
Any time earlier is a doddle with smooth travel, civilised spacing, and plenty of seats, for which I used my freedom pass (faithfully bearing photos of dear Illtyd Harrington inside it) on my daily commute.
So, transport secretary Grant Shapps, kindly reinstate the morning free travel time frame start, bringing it back to pre 7.15am for our passes. Admittedly it does tend to crowd increasingly later on at Archway – by 8am being a no-go.
