Redundancies and larger class sizes are likely

Thursday, 19th July 2018

• AS schools prepare for the holidays there is an urgent issue that is unresolved. Teachers are awaiting the decision of their pay review body which in light of the crisis in teacher recruitment is likely to recommend at least a 2 per cent increase.

Yet there is no sign yet that the government will fund the pay increase and schools will have to find the money out of grossly inadequate existing budgets. This will mean more redundancies and increased class sizes and make recruitment even harder.

By the year 2020 Camden schools will have lost a quarter of the incomes that they were receiving in 2010 in real terms.

We pledge to continue to campaign alongside schools, parents and teachers for fair and adequate funding for the education of our children and young people.
