Reducing the Focus outreach team budget is insane
Thursday, 15th March 2018
• THE decision of Camden NHS Clinical Commissioning Group to slash the budget of one of the most effective mental health units in the country is truly shocking.
The Focus outreach team specialises in helping the homeless, who need mental health support more than anyone.
It’s regarded by the NHS as a model of good practice in how to reach such a vulnerable group, so reducing its budget by nearly half is insane.
There will be greater pressure on health services, more crime, violence, and incarceration, and more rough sleepers dying on our streets. So what are we actually saving here, other than a line in a spread-sheet?
Theresa May and Jeremy Hunt claim they are supporting mental health like never before. On the evidence of this decision, this is just not true. They should hang their heads in shame.
