TEAM Camden couldn’t have asked for a better start to their London Youth Games campaign on Saturday as they recorded their best-ever result in the Cross-Country Championships.

More than 1,200 youngsters turned up at Parliament Hill Fields to compete across three age groups in male and female competitions.

Stars of the show were Sophia Parvizi-Wayne and Georgia Fear who finished first and second respectively in the girls’ Under-17s race, which was run over a 3,000m course.

Delighted gold-medallist Sophia said: “I’m really happy about winning, it’s a great start to the season. Parliament Hill is a tough course, but I do my steady runs there so I’m lucky as I know it really well.”

Runners from the Under-13s, 15s and 17s age groups combined to earn Camden a personal best ninth place finish, while the Under-11s (pictured), who are scored separately, also ran well to finish in sixth place overall. It was the prefect reward for all the effort put in by the cross-country teams, which are co-ordinated by Ben Dorsett and Sophie Sparrow from Camden’s Sports and Physical Activity Team in partnership with Graham Norris from Highgate Harriers Athletics Club.
