YOUNGSTERS from a primary in Hampstead were celebrating this week after helping their school return to top spot on the winners’ podium.

Boys and girls from New End in Streatley Place glided to glory in the Camden Schools Sports Association Swimming Championships, ending St Paul’s three-year dominance in the competition. Overall 12 schools entered the main gala at the Swiss Cottage Sports Centre, with New End winning the boys’, the girls’ and the overall team trophy.

Delighted PE teacher Julie Gage said: “It took a real team effort to win the championship, especially to finish ahead of St Paul’s, who have dominated the competition in recent years.

“Our speedy swimmers, some as young as seven, won lots of gold medals, and were deserving champions.

“They’ve made everyone connected to the school very proud.”

The gala was supported by the Camden Sport and Physical Activity Team, volunteers from the NVQ programme, Camden Swiss Cottage Swimming Club and Better, Camden’s leisure provider.

This year there was an inclusive gala run alongside the main event, which was won by Christ Church School in Regent’s Park.
