Richard Poole, left, and Ash Clark toast Rangers’ first Division One title

DEBUTANT Richard Poole sealed the Camden Sunday League Division One title for Crouch End Rangers at the weekend with a stoppage-time equaliser – just hours after waking up on a sofa in Brighton.

Poole had been on the south coast for a stag do on Saturday night but was desperate to feature for his new club in their crunch clash with Badu, having been registered only last week.

So the central midfielder set his alarm clock for 7am and got himself back to Hackney Marshes just in time to make the line-up for Rangers in their bid to seal the first Division One title in their history.

It looked like his journey was going to be in vain as second-placed Badu twice took the lead, despite Rangers’ captain Ash Clark levelling in between with a well-taken volley.

But with the seconds ticking down, Wally Downes swung in an inch-perfect corner and Poole crashed in a bullet header to earn a 2-2 draw and send the home side into jubilant celebrations.
