Question of overcharging

Thursday, 16th May 2019

• IT has come to light for the past two years that Camden Council have overcharged on service charge estimates deemed done to claw back lump sums of money on other accounts that qualified for long-term payment – that is, for the new heating system on alleged “home improvements”.

The overcharge in one case came to £1,360.71 over a two-year period before being discovered. The overpayment is refunded as a credit note. Are leaseholders aware of this tactic?

It would suggest that the landlord is using a computation that is inaccurate to generate additional income at the cost of unnecessary financial burden and stress.

It is also a possible method to claim forfeiture of a lease if their inaccurate computations and payments are not met.
