TWO pupils were honoured for their efforts above and beyond the playing field on Monday during a special assembly at their school in Camden Road.

The spotlight shone on Sarah MacDonald and Billie Goodrick, both 14, as they were presented with the Camden School for Girls’ Sportswomen-of-the-Year Award.

The annual accolade has become a prestigious prize since its launch in 2005, being given to pupils who take part in a range of sporting events both in and out of school.

Billie was a worthy winner as she participated in a staggering 36 competitions over the past year, coming within a whisker of breaking the record set by previous winner Lulu Szego, who took part in 37 events.

Schoolmate Sarah, who also took part in a whole host of competitions, was awarded her prize for her determination in dance. Since auditioning for Camden School for Girls’ dance company in 2010, she has continued to mesmerise audiences with her dance routines.

The delighted dancer said, “It’s brilliant. I love dancing anyway and to get an award for it makes it even better.
“I’m excited about performing in the Lord Mayors Show in November.”

Fellow winner Billie was just as happy, adding: “My mum was really proud of me. I feel like I’m inspiring the younger kids in our school.”
