Pull together to tackle the causes of rough sleeping
Thursday, 8th November 2018
• IT’S desperately sad to see that one of Camden’s many rough sleepers died outside the Roundhouse, (Homeless man found dead in Chalk Farm doorway, November 1).
According to other reports rough sleeping has hit a record high in London over the past three months.
The Mayor of London’s CHAIN (combined homeless and information network) report reveals that only 18 per cent of rough sleepers in Camden do not have a support need, whether it’s mental illness or a drug or alcohol addiction.
This means it is really hard for them to escape homelessness without long-term help.
Please remember that there are many things individuals can do to help alleviate the problem. It is easy to report someone you are concerned about either using the Streetlink app or with Camden Council’s own “StreetSafe” app.
If you have more time you can volunteer with one of Camden’s many homeless charities – and if you don’t have time then these charities are always in need of donations.
If we all pull together then we can make a tangible difference to these most deprived people in our community.
