• THIS is your idea of debate? To give two-thirds of a page to, first, the disgraceful historical distortions of Moshé Machover, plus a nice headline (Forum, The real reasons for expulsion, October 19).

Then a letter from the noxious Israel hating Palestine Solidarity Campaign (The Israeli authorities and their supporters are losing the argument, October 19), and then for “balance” to sandwich the letter from Councillor Phil Rosenberg between them (Moshé Machover’s historical revisionism is not just poor history, it is malicious, October 19).

If it wasn’t cringeworthy enough to have John Gulliver’s smug trivialisation of Jackie Walker’s and Machover’s appalling ignorance and Jew-hate in preceding weeks (Jackie Walker, the ghost, says we must be free to speak, September 28) and (Labour Party hands professor his P45, October 12).

You then have him (Machover) repeating the lies he has repeated constantly about Zionist “collusion” with the Nazis (in the Forum on October 19).

First, there was no “collusion”. The initial aim of the Nazi Party was to remove all Jews from German society. Hence them allowing the “Zionist” Judische Rundschau after banning several others in the hope that this would encourage “Jewish emigration”.

It is obvious that Moshé Machover has never read the original in German. The Zionist paper is making the point that there is no future in Germany for Jews. The actual hideous agenda of the “Nuremberg Laws” get no mention in Machover’s fantasy,with no regard for historical accuracy.

Secondly, again regarding the original statements by Reinhard Heydrich, and in the SS publication, Das Schwarze Korp, that these comments in German are dripping with sarcasm and hostility-typical of Nazi comments on Jews at that time. They do not mean well. The Nazi readers of these would laugh at the joke.

Again, Machover is only too anxious to use secondary sources to prove his point, à la Ken Livingstone. Moshé Machover’s article is bad history, slack and negligent, as well as a really pernicious distortion of the real events of that time.

This “anti-Zionism” is a secular version of ancient Jew-hate. Nothing more, nothing less.
