TOTTENHAM Hotspur are in Monaco for a friendly tomorrow (Saturday) evening against the revitalised French club. Gareth Bale won't be playing, but here are some faces to keep an eye out for.
Spurs
Danny Rose: After a successful loan spell at Sunderland last season, Danny Rose is looking to make a starting spot his at Spurs. Villas-Boas revealed that the left back is part of his plans in the upcoming season: “This year he'll want to be involved with Tottenham and hopefully he'll have a big future ahead of him.”
Rose will have to compete with Belgian Zeki Fryers and Benoît Assou-Ekotto for the left back berth this season, although Assou-Ekotto has been linked with a £6million move away from White Hart Lane. An impressive pre-season will certainly give Rose the upper hand in the fight for a starting position next season.
Paulinho and Chadli: New signings Paulinho and Nacer Chadli could make their debut against the Ligue 1 team on Saturday; both of whom will be hoping for positive starts to their Spurs' careers. Paulinho will be hoping to continue his fine Confederations Cup form into pre-season, while Chadli will want to replicate his performance against Spurs last season, where he scored a brace.
Monaco
Radamel Falcao: The newly promoted team have spent €144million so far this summer. Their most expensive signing has been Colombian forward Falcao. His acquisition set the club back just over £50million, making him the fifth most expensive signing in history. The former Athletico Madrid man scored 34 goals in 41 matches last season – including a hat-trick against Chelsea in the European Super Cup – which made him one of the most sought after strikers in Europe before his move to Monaco.
James Rodriguez and João Moutinho: Two new faces in the Monaco camp hoping to impress in the early stages of their Monaco careers. They were bought for a combined £60million from Porto after helping the Portuguese club to three successive league titles. The duo signed 5 year deals with their new club.
