Pret cups can’t be recycled

• WE enjoy Tom Moggach’s food reviews and admire the work he does helping local children to appreciate “real food”.

But his encomium of the Veggie Pret in Soho (Meaty Pret goes the way of all flesh, May 18) omits one crucial fact: Pret is the only major chain that doesn’t offer reusable plates, cups and cutlery to customers who eat in.

Every Pret sandwich, salad and coffee brings with it packaging which is almost never recycled and in the case of the cups cannot be.

For a company to promote itself as green while actively supporting the 2 billion cups Britain annually sends to landfill, not to mention the other packaging, is disingenuous at best. Zealots like me can bring our own reusable cups, but that doesn’t help with the rest.
