IT’S polo – but not as you know it.
The London Open Bike Polo tournament took place in Highbury Fields at the weekend as 56 teams battled it out on two wheels.
Teams from Alaska, Australia and Germany took on Camden and Islington players.
International side The Magic Way were crowned overall winners. Riders combined athletic ability with special low- gear bikes to swerve, duck and dive across the courts.
Organiser Jess Duffy, the UK’s highest ranking female bike polo player, is inviting Camden and Islington cyclists to give the burgeoning sport a try at one of their regular practice sessions at Mitchison Baxter Park in Canonbury.
They meet every Tuesday and Thursday, 7-9pm. Email jess@lhbpa.org or visit www.lhbpa.org for details.
