Keir Starmer

Time to ask Sir Keir Starmer for help?

• THERE is some small irony in the fact that in Kentish Town, an area noted for excellent transport connections, our conversation seems to be dominated by transport related issues.

I refer, of course, to the Kentish Town tube station closure, the lack of a lift to the platforms in the new plan, and the threatened closure of the bus stop outside the old car wash site on Highgate Road.

All this shows a lack of thought or consideration for transport users, especially those with mobility issues, who rely on buses to get around, given the access issues at many tube and Overground stations.

I noted a councillor in a recent CNJ bemoaning the situation and asking people to sign a petition. While commendable, I hope for more from our elected representatives.

And it would be a great opportunity for our councillors to show that residents are as important to them as businesses. Perhaps he could contact the local MP, Sir Keir Starmer and ask for his help, or even the capital’s mayor who is in charge of Transport for London.

Sir Keir and Sadiq Khan were spotted deep in conversation as they left Rupert Murdoch’s summer party last week, so maybe they’re already on the case.

Let us hope so.
