NEW political “frontiers” were supposed to open up at a debate in Conway Hall, Holborn, on Sunday over the possibility of an “alliance” between Labour, Lib-Dems and the Green Party.
But the idea, I heard, didn’t get very far. The Greens’ co-leader, Jonathan Hartley, was gung-ho about it at the packed meeting but Peter Taheri, secretary of Hampstead Labour Party, was rather cooler.
Mr Taheri, a barrister, wasn’t against the idea in principle but couldn’t see its relevance today as the Brexit crisis embroils Britain facing deep social problems.
He had some “sympathy” for elections run along the lines of proportional representation, but an alliance? Not today, he thought.
