• THIS week saw two police raids on Peabody Buildings, WC1.

The first had over 10 officers arrive after a fight between two men shouting, swearing, and threatening each other.

The second was frightening, at just after 5am, with heavily-clothed and helmeted police officers going to three separate flats and taking away some men.

Since these raids the cannabis smokers who usually stand several times a day outside their flats and sit on the courtyard’s benches, smoking their drugs etc, have disappeared.

Bikes being bought and sold in the courtyard have stopped appearing. The atmosphere has changed, it is relaxed and more pleasant now; 101 was phoned and the police were thanked.
