WHEN it comes to silky skills, free-flowing football and goals, there were plenty of Christmas crackers this week as kids from across Camden and Islington made the most of their final games of 2014 before a well-earned winter break.

Among clubs celebrating were Camden Elite, who booked their place in the quarter-finals of the London Cup with a convincing win over Broomwood Braves.

Caleb Mensah led the charge with two goals, while Dylan Shauhneffy, Shay and Shemi Blackwood and Frankie Ewer were also all on target in a 6-0 win.

Caleb and the Elite team just couldn’t stop scoring as they also beat Fusion 10-2 in the Under-11s Division of the Camden and Islington Midweek League. Caleb capped a memorable week as he scored six, while Shay, Leonard Ahmeti, Ade-Pierre Mattera-James and Callum Smith also all found the back of the net.

The Heath’s Under-12s were also celebrating after their sixth successive win at Market Road in a run which has taken them to the top of the league. Opponents Fusion took a 2-0 lead, but two goals apiece from Jonelle Hall and Fabien Graham saw The Heath turn the game around to win 4-2.

In the Camden and Regent’s Park Youth League West End FC’s Under-11s side had a barnstorming weekend – winning two games and hitting 10 goals along the way.

They came from behind to beat Regent’s Park Rangers 2-1 in a thrilling contest. David Langford equalised after being put in by player-of-the-match Liam Lichy-Lightman, while the winner came courtesy of a 20-yard lob by Aiden Kaye.

The triumphant team also beat MIFC. Centre back Mason Kirkwood scored a contender for goal-of-the-season with a spectacular long-range effort.

He was joined on the score sheet by Luc Carrier Sanders, who hit a hat trick, and captain Freddie Geraghty in an 8-0 win.
