WHEN an unforgettable PE teacher retired last month, little did he know his legacy in the school he worked in for 35 years would continue.
Mick Keeshan, who will be well known to anyone who went to William Ellis School, was shown the new plaque above his changing room at a farewell social with friends and colleagues last month.
“When you walk through that door every day into the changing room and meet and greet every class that you teach and you look at those four walls like going into a Premier League changing room,” he said.
“It’s where you talk to students pre-lesson and post-lesson, it’s your classroom, it’s the important place where you set the seed for the lesson. It’s a very important room.”

Mr Keeshan said he was honoured his name would hang above the door. In 2017 “Keeshan’s Football Club” was established by former William Ellis students and plays in the Islington midweek league.

Mr Keeshan said now he had more time being retired he would go to see the team in action. He said: “You don’t realise until you sit back and say I had an impact on those boys. They may not say it to me in person but forming the club in my name, it’s a very special thing.”
Headteacher Izzy Jones said that Mr Keeshan was kind and thoughtful and had made an “exceptional” contribution, adding: “Many generations – literally, sons, fathers and grandsons – were privileged to be taught by Mick.”
