Planned road-use changes are surely explained as stupidity
Thursday, 7th November 2024

People living in Fleet Road are furious that trial plans will leave buses parked up outside at their homes and have created the ‘Save Our Street’ campaign, while businesses – including the long-standing Giacobazzi’s deli – say they will be adversely affected
• EVERY week the CNJ carries further evidence that Camden’s plans for road-use changes are inimical both to residents and to public-transport users.
This week we learn that not only are the plans for South End Green an attack on the residents of Fleet Road, but Transport for London is not satisfied that it will be able to maintain the bus service we need if the move goes ahead, (Ssssh! TfL are against bus stand move, October 31).
Edmund Coulthard confirms that the Dartmouth Park low traffic neighbourhood will have a disastrous effect on bus services on that side of the borough, (There’s likely hill traffic chaos ahead, October 31).
Earlier we learned that the council plans to close Camden High Street to traffic (for the benefit of shops catering to tourists) with no realistic alternative for the buses that connect South End Green to central London.
And so on, and on.
One might almost see a consistent plan to eventually rid this part of Camden of people who rely on the buses. But that would be to make the mistake of ascribing to malice that which can be explained by stupidity.
