Perhaps it’s time for change of planning policy in the borough

• I READ in the New Journal that falling pupil numbers is now a major problem in Camden and schools might have to close or be reduced in size, (High housing costs and falling birth rate leads to falling rolls at Camden’s schools, March 28).

I understand this was raised at the full council meeting on April 8 by Cllr Jenny Mulholland. One factor that my be contributing to this issue is Camden’s planning policy, which often inhibits extending existing homes as families grow.

My family had to move from the house and street where my sons were born; Camden’s planning priorities were not able to accommodate the building of a loft extension that would have enabled us to remain in the community we were a part of for more than 17 years.

I wonder how many families have had to relocate or move out the area for the same reasons, families who wanted to remain and send their kids to local Camden Schools. Perhaps it’s time for Camden planners to consider a change of policy?
