People in Camden are again at the forefront of the fight against oppression

Thursday, 14th December 2017

• WE were very pleased that your John Gulliver attended our Palestine festival that took place on November 26 at the Somers Town Community Centre.

And many thanks for such a nice review, focusing on Jewish jokes (Backing Palestine? Ask Alexei, One Week with John Gulliver, December 7) and for pointing out that support for the campaign of Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) has nothing to do with anti-Semitism.

The BDS campaign is a non-violent initiative to put pressure on Israel’s racist government to respect the human rights of the Palestinian population.

The Palestine festival was organised by the Camden branch of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign.

The people of Camden were at the forefront of the struggle against apartheid in South Africa, which was supported by the Conservative government at the time, led by Margaret Thatcher.

Now Donald Trump has scandalously and dangerously described Jerusalem, a city sacred to Jews, Muslims and Christians, as Israel’s capital, the people of Camden are again at the forefront of the fight against oppression.
