Pedestrians just have to take pot luck when crossing the road in Swiss Cottage

• I WAS waiting at a bus stop on the northbound side of the Finchley Road, on the Cresta House side. In order to get to this point from the 100 Avenue side of Swiss Cottage I had to cross Avenue Road to the central island.
Then the last stage, crossing the Finchley Road itself, was extremely precarious and busy. It had to be negotiated with no traffic lights functioning and no person controlling the busy traffic.
Pedestrians just had to take pot luck on this last lap. Some cars and lorries were helpful, others just shot by, narrowly missing the odd person.
A cyclist, pedal or motor, would have no view of these pedestrians crossing randomly between cars and lorries and tall buses.
Waiting by the Odeon was a parked white van containing two men watching this thrilling and dangerous performance of terrified pedestrians and vehicles. There was writing on the side of this van, it stated: “Motorway incident.”
What a comfort to have these men waiting so close by so that any dead or injured pedestrian could be scraped off the road immediately. Has Transport for London any more Sunday thrills for us in store at Swiss Cottage?
Yours in terror.
