Passengers have priority over cyclists

‘These road lay-outs are dangerous and inherently flawed’
• VISUALLY Impaired in Camden has been raising concerns about the safety of Shared Use Bus Borders (SUBBs) where a cycle route and bus route share the same road), and floating bus stops, for some years now, (These crossings at bus stops are unsafe, August 4).
We have previously argued that these road lay-outs are dangerous and inherently flawed, but Camden Council does not seem to care that these schemes have a disproportionately negative impact on the more vulnerable (and often less vocal) of its residents.
At VIC we regularly hear from our members that they have changed their travelling habits, and that can include not going out at all, because they are concerned about their safety.
At least on the SUBB shown (see above) there is an instruction to cyclists to slow down and also a crossing. But most SUBBs do not have any signage at all.
We would prefer that such road lay-outs did not exist; but at the very least it should be possible to have signs at all existing SUBBs that make it clear bus passengers have priority over cyclists when getting on or off a bus.
