ACTOR Roger Lloyd Pack was among revellers who enjoyed the sixth annual Lady Somerset Road street party in Kentish Town on Saturday.
The party, established by Mr Lloyd-Pack’s oldest son Spencer, was originally set up after the family, who have lived in the street for 18 years, realised they did not know many of their neighbours.
Mr Lloyd-Pack said: “We started it up but this year it has been organised by our neighbours. It is a real team effort.”
Neighbours chipped in £3 per head for a communal lunch served on trestle tables that ran down the middle of the quiet street, off Highgate Road.
Mr Lloyd Pack added: “In France, villages have their annual fetes and they use it as a chance to get to know one another. We just don’t do it here. I don’t know whether it is because of the weather or our temperaments, but we know that this street party has worked. People say hello to each other. They talk to each other – and they smile at each other. It has made our street a better place to live in.”

With the street closed to traffic, children took it over for the day to play on their bikes, enjoy live music and watch the antics of a street entertainer.
Mr Lloyd Pack added: “That is one of the joys of the street party. Cars dominate the roads, and they are so oppressive and dangerous. But you clear the street of them for the day and the children act as if they have been released, set free. “It brings a totally different atmosphere to the place.”
