Overriding the views of the electorate will cost the council
Thursday, 8th July 2021
• WHEN a council consistently ignores its residents, and electors, it risks losing legitimacy as their local government.
Camden Council looks to have been doing exactly this, overriding the views and objections of local people on disastrous road closures in Queen’s Crescent and massive over-development in Avenue Road and Somers Town.
Perhaps Cllr Georgia Gould and her colleagues might reflect that when Labour foolishly ignored residents’ objections and tried to close the Prince of Wales Road baths in 2006 it cost them control of the council at the subsequent elections and ushered in the Conservative / Liberal Democrat coalition which did so much to damage the borough.
