PHOENIX FC are hoping their not-so-secret weapon is going to fire them to glory in their debut season in the Premier Division of the Hackney and Leyton Sunday League.

Striker Niko Muir has been in sensational form netting 21 goals in 11 league games, and banging in 35 in all competitions. The Islington hotshot struck twice at the weekend as Phoenix (pictured) stormed to a resounding victory over Lapton.

Captain Jamie Killingback, a penalty from Valen McKay and a header from substitute Leon Skinner wrapped up the rout as Phoenix ran out 5-1 victors.

The result leaves the side –  made up of some of the best players from around Camden and Islington – three points clear at the top of the table with a game in hand.

Manager Anthony Clark says he couldn’t have asked for any more from the team since taking over from Dave Harber, who has become club chairman.

“If we’re going to win the league it’s going to take a real team effort,” Anthony said. “We’ve a big squad and so far every player has stood up and been counted when called on. But without Niko’s goals we wouldn’t be top – he’s a class act.”
