• THE wraparound advert with the September 19 New Journal set a welcome positive tone in the currently toxic debate, and Camden Council should be commended for the message they are sending to citizens from other European Union countries living and working in the borough, who deserve far better consideration than central government has so far shown them.

However, I would like to see public bodies consider the wording they use, as this message deploys the same language as central government when asking “Are you an EU citizen?” Well, yes, as a United Kingdom citizen I am indeed also an EU citizen.

The implication that UK citizens are not EU citizens is both premature, and conceals a fundamentally disturbing aspect of Brexit that is not getting enough attention.

Millions of UK citizens are having rights stripped from them against their will. To us, that feels like the very opposite of “taking back control”.
