• IN his bid to address the 7,000 families on Camden’s waiting list, Cllr Danny Beales deems it necessary to:

1. Rob young children of play space.

2. Remove essential parking facilities for disabled tenants.

3. Remove all access for deliveries.

4. Add more flats to an already built up area where parking is already in short supply.

Cllr Beales describes these fundamental uses that we have for our small shared area on the Spencer Rise / Churchill Road Estate as a “poor use” of the space.

He says that there can be “amelioration”. This explanation is categorically vague.

We once again invite him to state specifically what the exact plans are for improvement to our much-used and much-needed space. Two swings and a slide will not suffice.

Cllr Beales has no comment to make as to the use of Camden’s share of the revenue received for over 10,000 council homes that were sold off in the right-to-buy scheme since the 1980s.

Cllr Beales has no comments to make in regards to the demolition of estates where tenants are displaced with the majority of flats created on that new development for private sale and
not available to social housing.

It appears that funding for the Spencer Rise / Churchill Road is dependent on the council selling off even more of their property / assets.

The New Homes on Small Sites Programme – Phase 1 (SC/2023/09) is replete with obfuscatory statements with no confirmation that all of the new homes built will go into the social housing pot. In fact their preferred option would mean that only 65 per cent of the new homes built would do so.

So how exactly does this self-proclaimed philanthropist plan to make a dent in the much mentioned housing list?

Cllr Beales has decided that our small space is of low-density use. It is interesting that he has not taken up our invitation to visit the estate and see for himself. We invite you to visit and see if you can find a space to park.
