• TELEFONICA has submitted planning application 2020/3958/P to Camden Council to instal mega multiband antenna, including dedicated 5G (fifth generation) antenna, to go on top of Taplow in Winchester Road, NW3, one of the four Chalcot estate towers.

There is no mention of 5G in the pre-application consultation and it is barely evident in the current application. None of the Taplow residents I’ve spoken to, or local councillors, recall being consulted on this application.

The increase in microwave radiation will be between at least five to 60 times higher than the current levels and will affect residents as well as children at the UCL Academy; Swiss Cottage Nursery; Huggles; The Winch, and Trevor Roberts School.

It is widely acknowledged that children are particularly susceptible to EMF radiation, as are the elderly and immuno-compromised.

The International Commission on Non-Ionising Radiation Protection guidelines claim that as long as the frequency is non-ionising, it is safe.

This is far from the truth. Thousands of scientific studies since the 1930s, right up until this year, show significant harm to humans, animals, trees, plants, and pollinators from radio frequency radiation (RFR).

Such studies include one by NASA in 1981; the Ecolog Report commissioned by T-Mobile in 2020, and in 2011 the World Health Organisation classified RFR as a Group 2B possible carcinogen to humans.

Last year, at a Senate hearing on 5G’s future, the telecoms industry admitted to Senator Richard Blumenthal that they have not done any tests on the health risks from 5G.

Camden Council has an overriding obligation to safeguard the health of its constituents by virtue of s.2B of the National Health Service Act 2006.
