Opening the gents would help
Thursday, 1st August 2024
• I HAVE to agree with your correspondent about “smelly streets” – due in no small part to the two-year and counting closure of the gents’ loo in the high street, (Finding extra money for street cleaning, July 25).
I have challenged the council but they still can’t offer any date for the planned refurbishment. A “principal environmental services officer” said: “There is no opening date set, however the works to fully refurbish have been fully funded by Camden and is scheduled to commence during this financial year. The full refurbishment is complex and reliant on time scales for multiple partners to deliver the funds successfully.”
I’ve still no idea who is responsible for getting this work started. I was reassured that “all other public toilets are open as normal” (that’s three for the whole borough, four if you can make it down to Lincoln’s Inn Fields). And two of three “pop-up urinals” (ugh) are currently out of order…
