Centre Point fountains

The Centre Point fountains

• I WAS glad to read (Dan about town… November 17) that the Centre Point fountains have been received in the Architectural Association’s grounds in Dorset.

When, in 1984, I gave perhaps the first-ever appreciative lecture about Centre Point at the association in London, the then chairman refused to countenance its publication in their journal on the grounds that it wasn’t serious architecture.

Much later there was a local struggle to save the fountains, eventually defeated by Crossrail who considered they needed the space for the present, unnecessary, giant glass canopies that are a maintenance problem and clutter the space.
