Judd Street

Judd Street

• HOT on the heels of Camden’s decision to ignore the public inquiry recommendations about Tavistock Place, the council is now speeding ahead with two other major road blocks.

Most local people will be unaware that the council and Transport for London are about to permanently block the junction between Euston Road and Judd Street; and that Hunter Street will also be blocked off from Lansdowne Terrace.

Some consultation leaflets were distributed over two years ago but the council has publicly admitted that these failed to reach many households. The main route in from Euston Road for cars, lorries and coaches will be the tiny one-way Duke’s Road.

There is one last chance. Objections must be made before September 27 by post to TfL, Streets Traffic Order Team Palestra, 197 Blackfriars Road, SE1 8NJ. Quote reference NP/REGULATION/STOT/TRO, GLA/2018/0439.

These new road blocks will cause: many extra vehicle miles and increased pollution from displaced traffic; severe congestion particularly in Duke’s Road, Flaxman Terrace, Burton Street, Cartwright Gardens and Marchmont Street; more costs for disabled and older people needing taxis; emergency vehicles being held up; increased risk of crime because of the huge reduction in police vehicles passing through; and longer journeys for the hundreds of hospital patients travelling daily between hospital sites.

This is yet another decision which will make the quality of life worse for local people. Object while there is still time.
