Now that we’re to pay for swimming…

Hampstead Heath ponds
• SO the City of London has finally got its way – making people pay to swim in the ponds which should be free, (New group plans direct action protests over new swimming charges, July 17).
I expect them to provide access for people with limited mobility by making a ramp or hoist for each pond. Many of us who used to swim freely and have limited mobility will be delighted to enter the clean waters again.
We could accept the loss of swimming when it was free but not now that they have put themselves in the position of making money out of a free place.
Which I think is sadly disappointing of the Heath and Hampstead Society who should be protecting its values not selling them.
