‘The sooner we become a republic the better’ 

• I THOROUGHLY concur with the two letters in your May 11 edition (The brainwashing starts early! and The monarchy needs critical reappraisal).

What is a monarchy? It’s nothing but a man-made institution made up by brainwashed people in the medieval times and even beyond.

No one is born “royal” and it is a great pity that people still put others on pedestals. It is true that most are brainwashed from childhood to believe that we should have allegiance to some people we do not even know.

They are allowed to live with privilege and opulence while others in this country are struggling to pay their bills and rent and clothe their children. The sooner we become a republic the better.
