THEY might of grown up in the middle of a concrete jungle miles away from any sand, but footballers Terry Bowes and Aaron Clarke are ready to tackle the challenge of putting beach soccer firmly on the map.

The duo helped lead England to their most successful season ever last year as they were part of the all-conquering squad that won major trophies in France and Sweden – sending the Three Lions roaring up the world and European rankings.

Terry (No.5 on the right), who manages the national side, said he would love to make more people aware of the sport and help it gain a better following across the country.

“I’ve been playing for 13 years and it’s taken me to places I never thought that I would go,” he said.

“I’ve competed in tournaments across Europe, in Thailand, South Africa and even Nigeria – yet there’s still a lot of people who don’t even know the sport exists.

“My ultimate goal is to lead England out in a World Cup,” added Terry, who lives in Highgate. “When you look at how well we’re progressing and the young players that are slowly coming into the team it’s a realistic target.”

Team-mate Aaron, who is the head coach of Arsenal’s Under-10s academy, said that with a little extra support England would be ready to take on all comers.

“For us to get to the next level we need more indoor facilities in this country.

“The best teams in the world train all year round, but with the famous British weather that’s just not possible for us. When we can, we train in Shoreditch or London Bridge – but that’s on a volleyball court. A little funding could make a massive difference.”
