AFC Shooters

THERE were some scintillating scorelines in the Camden Sunday League at the weekend, but for pure intensity there was one that stood-out from the rest.

In Division Two unbeaten AFC Shooters battled out a hard-fought 5-4 victory over Enate United in a game packed with talking points.

The Shooters opened the scoring when Kaleem Aftab sent a curling free-kick into the box that came off a defender’s head to deceive the stranded keeper.

Enate equalised after a goalmouth scramble, but Shooters were soon back in front when JJ Monserrat scored from the penalty spot.

An instant replay saw Enate again equalise, only for Shooters to restore their lead minutes later courtesy of another well-taken penalty from Monserrat.

Enate looked odds-on to pull the scores level for a third time when they were awarded a penalty, but goalkeeper Chris Brassington had other ideas as he dived full-stretch to make a great save. Spurred on, Shooters went up field and established a two-goal cushion thanks to a smart finish from Steve Comber.

The action, however, was far from over as Enate once again clawed their way back into the game. But Marc Monserrat followed his brother onto the score-sheet by passing the ball into the goal, and despite another Enate score, it was his goal that proved the winner.
