Nicholas’s ideas for Camden may interest the current designers

New images of a £55million Highline to be built above the streets of Camden Town and King’s Cross have been revealed
• I CONGRATULATE all those who have submitted an application for permission to build a Highline park between Kentish Town and York Way.
Back in 2014, in an attempt to divert the destructive impact of the HS2 development on Camden, my husband, the late Nicholas Wood ARIBA, wrote a pamphlet, Two New Cycle Paths and Parks for Camden.
This inter alia showed the “possible development of the large and beautifully built railway cutting north of St Pancras, between the Stephenson tunnels, which could be part infill and decked over: this area would accommodate vaulted workshops on the ground and first floors, adjacent to the railway, with offices above and housing on top at street level.”
Had his ideas been adopted not one house would have been demolished in the HS2 project. But that is now history.
However to pick up your point (Highline is a great plan, but don’t forget the vulnerable, Comment, May 19) that the disadvantaged must not be forgotten in this current scheme, I do think his schemes for workshops will help redress that.
I have the 15-page, clearly-illustrated, pamphlet should the current designers wish to see it and perhaps be able to modify their plans to incorporate some of his ideas.
