A NEWBORN baby has been found dead “in a very complex and sensitive case”, murder detectives said today.

Police found the child in Tavitan Street, Bloomsbury, shortly after 2pm.

The Met said officers went to the address after being alerted by a woman who had recently given birth “presented” at the hospital.

A 26-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder, child neglect and concealment of a birth.

A police cordon in the street included a recycling bin that had been draped with tarpaulin.

Detective Chief Inspector Sarb Kaur, leading the investigation, said: “This is a very complex and sensitive case.

“At this early stage, we continue to work alongside the NHS to ensure the mother of the baby receives the necessary care in hospital.

“My detectives from Central North Public Protection team are working on a range of enquires and we await the results of forensic examination before we can establish the full facts of the investigation.”

Anyone who has information relating to this incident but has not yet spoken with officers should call 101, quoting 4897/8JUL.
