Neighbours unite in memory of Jo Cox

NEIGHBOURS across Camden “were brought together” on Sunday when they joined a nationwide campaign to mark the first anniversary of the murder of Labour MP Jo Cox.

Residents, pictured, from Oakeshott Avenue, on Holly Lodge estate in Highgate, shared stories, food, music and laughter as they took part in The Great Get Together.

The Duchess of Kent and Tulip Siddiq were among guests at the JW3 Centre

Children played fun games and cooled off by throwing water balloons at each other.  Organiser Alison David said that there are already plans for another event next year.  “I’ve lived here for over 20 years and I used to know all my neighbours, but now I hardly know anyone,” she said. “It was a great way to get all the neighbours talking.”

Hampstead and Kilburn MP Tulip Siddiq – a friend of Ms Cox – joined an event hosted by the JW3 Centre in Finchley Road, alongside the Duchess of Kent. “The event served as a fitting tribute to Jo’s advocacy of interfaith programmes and her strident belief in the power of community,” said Ms Siddiq.
