Narrower streets mean more pollution
Thursday, 22nd October 2020
• DELIVERIES, official businesses, people visiting, all have to drive through Camden Town…
So to narrow the streets for cyclists and pedestrians and reroute traffic, will only make more pollution while cars sit waiting for traffic lights to turn green, (Calls to reverse low traffic scheme on ‘gridlock’ roads, October 8).
Parliament needs to work out a scheme that enables car owners to switch to electric and hydrogen cars.
They need to put money into manufacturing such cars, along with the infrastructure to top-up, while creating renewable sustainable energy.
Putting a screw valve on a volcano doesn’t do it. And allowing all the heavy goods vehicles to constantly travel down an old side street like mine, is definitely not on.
At times these days I cannot even cross the road outside my house because of the elevated traffic.
The billions of pounds saved if HS2 came to a fast end would free up money for all of the above as well as for the NHS.
With pandemics, people will not give up their cars and they will – nine times out of 10 – not ride that exorbitant high speed train. Even the disabled will give HS2 a miss.
