• I WOULD like to thank all the people who voted for me as your Labour candidate in the Camden by-election in the Highgate ward.

It was an honour to be your Labour candidate and a great privilege to have the opportunity while campaigning to meet and hear from so many Highgate voters.

I am disappointed not to have the opportunity to represent you on the council but I would like to congratulate Lorna Jane Russell on her win and on the chance to be of service to the residents of Highgate.

We are fortunate to live in a democracy and I do not take that for granted. So I would also like to thank everyone at the town hall who organised the election process and those who conducted the count.

It was an example of our democracy in action, something that I know we all cherish in Camden, not least at a time when democracies are under challenge in so many parts of the world.
