A HISTORIC grassroots music venue in Kentish Town is up for sale.

The Fiddler’s Elbow, a multi-genre venue in a Grade II-listed building that dates back to the mid-1800s, hosts four bands a night seven days a week.

But now the Malden Road venue is up for sale being advertised as within a key location in the sought-after London borough of Camden with a well-established, award-winning grassroots music venue and five bedrooms in upper-floor accommodation.

It adds that this is a rarely available freehold property which presents a unique development opportunity and suggests, subject to planning, that the upper floors could be converted for residential or commercial use.

The venue is up for sale for £1,750,000.

The owners said the pub was up for sale and that they are retiring and looking for somebody to take on the venue.

Fiddler’s owner and music promoter Dan Maiden said: “What a great opportunity for somebody to take on one of the most iconic, grassroots venues in the country.”

In 2023, speaking to the New Journal, Mr Maiden said the venue had been suffering as trade had fallen to Covid-era lows, as illness, inflation and strikes were deterring gig-goers.

Audiences at that time were down by 25 per cent, cancellations were rising and finances were “on the breadline”, despite funding from the Music Venue Trust.
