A MOTORCYCLIST was killed in a crash in Kentish Town on Saturday evening. Mohammed Mezan Ali, 30, was in collision with a car at the junction of Farrier Street and Kentish Town Road at around 8.30pm.
Among grieving relatives in East Ham, his sister has appealed for friends to think of him in their prayers this week.
Police and paramedics rushed to save him but he was pronounced dead at the scene. A picture released by the emergency services showed shattered bike and car parts on the road. The car’s driver – a 28-year-old man – stopped at the scene and was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving.
Chef Kamal Arbabi was working at New York Pizza, directly opposite the scene of the crash when he heard a loud noise. He rushed out on to the street where he saw the biker lying on the ground. “I’ve never seen an accident like it,” he said. “I heard a bang and when I came out there was a guy lying on the floor. There was a lot of people around. The guy was very badly injured. A lot of people were trying to help him.”
Diego Alejandro, head waiter at the Bintang restaurant, further down the street, said it was “upsetting”. He added: “At about 8.30 I went outside and the road was cordoned off. I thought the paramedic was trying to talk to him – I didn’t realise he had passed away. “It affected the whole road, it was crazy.”
The driver was bailed, pending further enquiries, to a date in early June. Detectives from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for information. Anyone who witnessed the collision or has any information is asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0208 991 9555 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
