Monitoring the pollution

• THERE is no mention in Camden’s draft climate action plan of their responsibility when giving building permission to private developments that are/ will be taking place across the north-west of the borough, for example, Adelaide Road, Swiss Cottage, skyrocketed pollution levels in the demolition of, and from diesel machinery being used on that site.
Walk near the Swiss Cottage library/leisure centre on some days, you can’t help but breathe it in; West End Lane, the old Travis Perkins site demolition, O2 Centre car park, proposed housing development.
ClockWork Factory apartments redevelopment, and Nido student halls extension both on Blackburn Road, to name a few. Major building sites are where high levels of pollution are generated.
Diesel trucks coming and going and machinery on site for years. Who monitors these sites? Who decides what is dangerous levels of pollution and stop works to investigate the cause?
Cllr Adam Harrison states: “The 10-year plan we agreed has overseen nearly 40 per cent fall in carbon emissions” (Help the council to slow down global warming, January 30). Can I ask, where is this monitored and how does he arrive at that 40 per cent figure?
