THERE were three cheers for Cobden Athletic at the weekend as they were crowned champions in division one of the Camden Sunday League for the third year in a row.

The celebrations were quickly put on ice, however, as manager Dave “the Magic Man” Willis set his sights on completing the perfect season. “We’ve clinched the title with a convincing win which is excellent, but I want that perfect record,” he said.

“We’ve won 12 games out of 12 and now just need to beat The Hurricanes in our final league game.

“No team in the league has ever had a perfect record,” he added.

Cobden certainly snapped up the silverware in style on Sunday as they smashed in six past the London Badgers at Hackney Marshes.

Midfielder Hussein Hussein who, Dave joked, was “so good they named him twice”, opened the scoring on just five minutes when he slotted in from close range.

Two goals from Jack Bond, and strikes from Steven Bruce, stand-in skipper Lee O’Driscoll and Patrick Jones wrapped up the 6-0 rout.

Asked about his early thoughts for next season, the Magic Man said: “Watch this space! I’m going to strengthen the squad and see where we go from there, I guess.”
