RENÉE Slegers will be hoping that her Arsenal players turn their shooting boots into scoring ones on Saturday when they welcome Manchester United to the Emirates.

The Gunners boss – along with a near 24,000 crowd – were left wondering just how the north Londoners failed to beat Crystal Palace at the weekend. Despite having some 30 shots, nine of which were on target, Arsenal couldn’t find a way past Palace shot-stopper Pauline Peyraud-Magnin as the one-sided tie finished goalless.

Slegers will now be desperate to make sure the Gunners don’t drop more points at home in the Women’s Super League this weekend against United. “Disappointed of course, we were here to take three points,” said Slegers following Saturday’s stalemate.

“That’s what we were set to do, that’s what we expect from ourselves. We weren’t successful from that perspective, and that’s the most important [thing], the result.

“Yes, there were really good things in our performance, some real positives. I think we had 30 shots and plenty of box entries, but the ball didn’t go into the net, so we’re critical of ourselves.”
