THERE was excitement in the air on Sunday as a super squad of 44 youngsters donned their Camden colours and laced up their running shoes to take part in the London Mini Marathon.

Over 2,000 11-to-17-year olds from across the country were estimated to have signed up for the three-mile challenge, which starts at Old Billingsgate and runs along the river, before then racing towards Buckingham Palace and finishing up at The Mall.

Managed by Ben Dorsett from Camden Council’s Sport and Physical Activity Service, and supported by Highgate Harriers Athletics Club, the borough’s top team was the Under-17s boys’ squad, who finished fifth overall out of the 33 London boroughs. Harriers coach Graham Norris said: “It was such a great day and a fantastic opportunity for all of the athletes. You could see how excited they were when they collected their medals at the finish line.”
