THE Islington and Camden Year 8 District football team are off and running after netting a convincing 3-0 win away at Barnet on Saturday at Chase Lodge.

This season the Under-13s side will be playing home and away matches against Barnet, Hillingdon, Ealing, Brent and Harrow in what promises to be an entertaining 10-game league.

And if Saturday’s showing is anything to go by the boroughs’ boys will be treating their supporters to some scintillating action.

They took the lead against Barnet midway through the first half when Charlie Wickham flicked the ball on for Tyler Ming, who rifled home a stunning half-volley.

The physical presence and good anticipation of Samuel Ababio saw Islington and Camden score twice in four minutes to end the game as a contest early in the second half.

Twice the youngster won the ball high up the pitch before feeding Dominic Curran, who finished with aplomb on both occasions to give his team an unassailable lead.

Delighted coach Jamie Houghton said: “I thought at times the boys played some decent football but were also prepared to win their tackles and their headers when they needed to.

“Hopefully we can continue to improve in the coming weeks.”
