A CHILD had to wait for 12 hours on a trolley before a hospital bed was found for her, while a metal plate was left inside another patient after surgery.

A report says there had been a “major increase” in the number of incidents during May, most of which were pressure ulcers, which occur when patients are lying still in a bed for a prolonged periods of time.

In a “never event”, a metal plate was left inside a patient during surgery. The 12 hour “trolley wait” in the paediatric department before being admitted to a bed.

A report from the Camden Clinical Commissioning Group said: “UCLH will investigate the care delivery before transfer of the patient to another provider and highlight the issue with paediatric intensive care beds.”
